2007 Wellington Open

The 2007 Wellington Open actually occurred in 2008 as we were a little disorganised here in Wellington. We have left it called the 2007 open so that we can have another tournament in November as usual.

There was an excellent turnout with over ten dan players and four kyu players.

It was a five-round draw. A suggestion was made afterwards that, now that most people fly to the tournament, we could do a six-round draw next year.

For dinner on Saturday most of us went to the Korean restaurant ... After that we went to Barry, Yucong, Edwin and Tristan's house for some fun card games.

The players were (dan) Ken, Long Yang, Hong Sheng, Teru, Du, David, Yucong, Edwin, Barry, Hourdur, Corrin, and (kyu) Tristan, Alex, Jonathan and Allan.

In the dan section, Long Yang Li came 1st, and Edwin Phease came 2nd.

In the kyu section, Jonathan came first, Tristan came second and Alex came third.

Not all games were recorded. Perhaps the two most interesting are Edwin's games against Du Shiyong Image:Shiyong-edwin.sgf and against Ken Xie Image:Ken-edwin.sgf.
